Known for her emotionally stirring repertoire and intricate right hand technique, Catherine Altamura is a classically trained virtuoso who brings technical expertise to the soul-inspiring music she writes and performs.
Born in Berkeley, California, Catherine began playing the guitar at age 5, learning basic chords and strums. Her family moved to Napa when she was 8 and there she sat under a classical guitarist who began her study of classical theory. With a growing passion for the guitar, she continued to play through junior high school, then transferred her studies to the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She spent the next four years training under George Skaellariou and Larry Ferrera. Catherine performed in several Master Classes with Christopher Parkening, and has carried his influence to depth both musically and spiritually.
Catherine became a Christian at 14 and started a life-long journey of dedicating her life to knowing and serving the Lord, Jesus Christ.
She began writing and arranging contemporary Christian pieces for the guitar, and has developed her musical career playing, performing, and recording her compositions publicly. One of her desires is to join the technical expertise of classical, acoustic, and ethnic music with the depth of historical and contemporary Christian music. Her recordiing, Luminaria, is a collection of these pieces, performed with both solo guitar and with the Skywalker Chamber Orchestra.
Catherine resides in Santa Rosa, California,
with her husband, Peter, and their three
beautiful children. |
